I also have 4 years’ public-sector ER experience within the NHS, including at Head of Employee Relations level. I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD) and possess an MSc (distinction) in Personnel Management & Business Administration from Aston Business School. Also, I am an experienced university lecturer on Employee Relations at Masters level and am an accredited civil and commercial mediator.
Who is Positive ER Solutions aimed at?
Employment law/people management can be a minefield for any business owner/manager. Typical feelings when people issues arise are:
- I don’t know what to do.
- I am worried about doing the wrong thing.
- This is way out of my comfort zone.
- I don’t feel confident at all.
- My employee is probably getting advice; who can I get advice from.
- Dealing with this issue is going to take so much time.
- If I ignore the problem it may go away!!
Such feelings are very common in all types of business. Positive ER Solutions is aimed at all businesses but in particular, small to medium-sized businesses who may not have an in-house HR practitioner, or where the HR team needs support on people issues but is unsure whom to approach. Positive ER Solutions, through myself, will provide you with the confidence to deal with matters relating to employment/people management.
What can I offer you from an Employee Relations perspective?
The most important issues to me are your requirements; these are likely to be very specific to your business. What I would love to do is discuss with you how I can assist. The below is an indication of what I can offer:

Please note that I am not able to provide representation in the event of your business receiving an Employment Tribunal claim but I am able to provide details of organisations who may be able to assist. I can also provide you with contacts in the event of any Health & Safety needs that you may have.

What will I need from you?
Simply the following:
- Your early contact — many issues can be ‘nipped in the bud’ at a very early stage. The maxim ‘the earlier the better’ is very relevant to employment/people issues. If the matter has been in existence for a while then this is not a problem – we can identify a solution together.
- A clear understanding from you of what you understand the issue to be.
- Your willingness to challenge if you do not understand a recommended course of action.
- Your feedback upon resolution of an issue.
My approach
- Emphasis on building a relationship with you in person, by e-mail and over the phone.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- 'Can do' attitude.
- Attention to detail.
- My professional credibility is key.
- I am passionate about employment/people matters and have great enthusiasm for the subject.
- I look to make the uncertain clearer in order to eliminate ambiguity.
